How to Prioritize Your Health and Wellness As An Entrepreneur

Alright, business owners! It’s time to get on board with the self-care tips and health and wellness journey. You really need to prioritize your health. Something I’ve always told my clients is, “You can’t pour into someone else’s cup if yours isn’t full first.”

Don’t you agree?!

There are so many tasks that we have on our calendar throughout our day-to-day: meetings, projects, doctor's appointments, administrative tasks, and MORE. It can get overwhelming and feel like a lot on your plate. With the hustle and bustle of the life of an entrepreneur, we often let our own health and wellness practices slip.

Here are three simple ways that you can prioritize your health to put yourself first, practice self-care to alleviate stress, improve your mental health, and boost productivity in all areas of your life without feeling like you’re sacrificing invaluable time.

Prioritize Your Sleep Schedule

Getting enough sleep is one of the easiest and most effective ways to practice self-care, yet it’s one of the first things we sacrifice when our days get hectic. Since it’s not always feasible to get the recommended 7 - 9 hours of sleep each night, it’s essential to examine your day and see where you can build in time for some much-needed rest.

A short nap at a certain point in the day can help you unwind and refocus. When during the day do you feel sluggish or tired? The time of day (morning or afternoon) is up to you; you know your body best.  Try changing your environment and closing your eyes for a quick nap next week when this feeling comes over you. Be sure to set a timer if needed.

Give Yourself a Reset Day

Schedule a couple of days each month where you can allow yourself to unplug for a few hours and rest. Plan these in advance. The simple act of marking them on your calendar can actually help reduce stress because it gives you something to look forward to each month.

Even when you plan a reset day ahead of time, it can be easy to skip over it to do some work instead. Don’t skip these scheduled times! You ask your clients to keep appointments and meetings when they book with you. Why would you cheat when you scheduled something with yourself? Prioritize your needs and take the reset day when you schedule it.

Stop Focusing and Start Daydreaming

We all have limits on how long we can focus and remain productive. Taking a mental break for just five minutes after working on a task or project that requires a lot of your personal attention allows your brain to relax. This will also make it easier for you to refocus. Doing this a few times a day helps improve focus and eases the amount of effort you put into concentrating.

These are just a few of the many ways that we can incorporate self-care into our daily routine and not make it feel like a chore. Remember, as entrepreneurs, we must always put our best foot forward to serve our clients with value, compassion, and integrity. I’d love to hear if you have other self-care tips for entrepreneurs!
